Dan Vimont holds the Ned P. Smith Professorship in Climatology in the Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences Department. His research focuses on understanding the causes and consequences of climate variability and change, especially variability that involves ocean/atmosphere interactions. He uses a wide range of tools in his research, from analysis of observations, to running climate models, to development of theory. Vimont also works closely with the Wisconsin Initiative on Climate Change Impacts to develop knowledge and advance solutions for climate impacts in Wisconsin and the Upper Midwest.
