With funding from the Kohl Initiative, the La Follette School has hired Assistant Professor Ross Milton, who joins the faculty this fall.
Milton’s research interests include public finance of state and local taxes, the economics of education, and political economy. His work has focused on the interplay between taxes and alternative funding sources for public services as well as the design of tax limitations on the powers of local governments and their subsequent effects.
He will be teaching PA 818 Introduction to Statistical Methods for Public Policy Analysis and PA 802 Seminar Series for 2020-21.

Milton has a PhD in economics from Cornell University as well as a master’s degree in economics from Cornell and a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from Macalester College. He is one of 10 faculty members joining the La Follette School in fall 2020.
During the spring 2020 semester, Milton was a visiting assistant professor in UW–Madison’s Department of Economics, where he taught Research in Public Economics. He previously was an assistant professor of economics at Kansas State University.
The Kohl Initiative, funded by former U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl, focuses on three La Follette School priorities: to expand its public outreach mission, to advance the training of future public leaders, and to support influential research by faculty and students.
